Rangers retire Graves' No. 9
Feb 3, 2009 - 2:45 PM Atlanta (17-29-5) at NY Rangers (29-18-4), 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- The rafters overlooking Madison Square Garden will become a bit more crowded on Tuesday.
Former New York Rangers left wing Adam Graves will have his No. 9 jersey retired during a ceremony prior to the team's game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
A key member of the Rangers' 1994 Stanley Cup championship club, Graves joins former teammates Brian Leetch, Mark Messier and goaltender Mike Richter, as well as fellow icons Rod Gilbert and Eddie Giacomin to be honored by the storied franchise.
A native of Toronto, Graves finished his 17-year career with 329 goals and 287 assists in 1,152 contests with the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Rangers.
New York is hoping to avoid its third consecutive loss after getting blanked by the Boston Bruins, 1-0, on Saturday.
The Thrashers were also shut out in their last game, a 2-0 setback to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Atlanta has lost four straight contests.
