Parise, Devils seek second straight win

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- While goaltender Martin Brodeur continues to be sidelined, All-Star Zach Parise has become the straw that stirs the drink for the New Jersey Devils.

Parise and Devils seek their 10th win in 11 tries when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Since playing in his All-Star Game, the 24-year-old Parise has notched points in five consecutive games. He is riding an eight-game points streak overall.

The left wing's success continued on Friday, when he netted a goal and set up another in New Jersey's 5-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Parise has 30 goals this season - two away from tying his career-high set in 2007-08.

Kevin Weekes made 31 saves in his first start in eight games, but will likely give way to Scott Clemmensen in this contest.

The 31-year-old Clemmensen continues to thrive in the absence of Brodeur, whose return date could be as early as February 26 against Colorado. The four-time Vezina Trophy winner has been out since November 1 with a torn distal biceps tendon.

Los Angeles, which has won five of its last six, is coming off a 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Anze Kopitar recorded two goals and an assist as the Kings scored three times in the second period en route to their second consecutive win.

Alexander Frolov, captain Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll each notched a pair of assists and rookie Jonathan Quick rebounded from allowing a goal 15 seconds into the game to turn aside 41 shots.
