Kiprusoff, Flames look to snap skid against Ducks

Feb 7, 2009 - 12:44 PM Anaheim (26-24-5) at Calgary (30-17-4), 3:00 p.m. EST

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Miikka Kiprusoff may be in line to break a goaltending record this season. The Calgary Flames, however, are more concerned with getting back to their winning ways.

Likely to be in net for the seventh straight contest, Kiprusoff and the Flames look to snap their three-game losing streak when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

The Finnish netminder has won all 30 of his team's games this season and needs 18 more to tie current New Jersey Devil Martin Brodeur's single-season record of 48, set in 2006-07. The Flames have 31 games remaining.

Kiprusoff, who is 30-14-3 with a 2.80 goals-against average in 47 games, has struggled lately, surrendering 12 tallies in Calgary's current skid.

The Flames are coming off a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, which saw Kiprusoff allow two goals in each of the first and third periods. The 32-year-old has allowed four goals in 15 games this season and Calgary is 4-11-1 in those games.

Anaheim has been trudging through goaltender problems as well, dealing with a controversy between All-Star Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Jonas Hiller.

In Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators, Giguere played for the first time since surrendering two goals in 14 minutes of a 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders on January 21. The Montreal native is 1-6-2 in his last 10 appearances.

Hiller, meanwhile, started the Ducks' five previous games and has yielded three goals or less in each of his last eight appearances.
