Sabres seek third straight win vs. Senators

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres seem to be putting it all together.

Coming off two victories, the Sabres seek more success when they visit the Ottawa Senators in a matchup of Northeast Division foes on Saturday.

Buffalo cruised to a 5-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday and then edged the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2, two nights later.

Ryan Miller had his career-best shutout streak halted, but another stellar performance in net lifted the Sabres to a win anyway Friday.

Tim Connolly scored the winning goal 4:55 into the third period, while defensemen Jaroslav Spacek and Nathan Paetsch netted second-period tallies in their returns to the lineup.

Miller, who made 35 saves in winning his third straight start, had his scoreless run halted at 157 minutes, 12 seconds.

In the wake of positioning itself for a playoff run, Buffalo received bad news on center Paul Gaustad, who will be sidelined indefinitely with a shoulder injury.

Buffalo won three in a row from January 15-19 and has won four straight on two occasions this season.

Ottawa, meanwhile, will try to snap its four-game skid after suffering a 4-3 defeat in a shootout to the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Bruins on Thursday.

The Senators have 42 points, ahead of only the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders in the East.
