Avalanche play 1,000th career game vs. Blue Jackets
Dec 5, 2006 - 3:42 PM Columbus (7-16-2) at Colorado (12-12-2) 9:00 pm ESTDENVER (Ticker) - The Colorado Avalanche play their 1,000th game since moving to Denver after the 1994-95 season when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
The Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver and became the Colorado Avalanche in the 1995-96 season. The Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in their first season of existence.
The 1,000 games include both the regular season (847 games) and Stanley Cup playoffs (153 games). The Avalanche own a 546-320-101-32 record (.613) in 999 games since moving to the Mile High City, the third-highest points percentage in the NHL behind Detroit (.660) and New Jersey (.615).
The Avalanche have lost two of their last three following a 2-1 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. John-Michael Liles scored the lone goal for Colorado early in the second period.
Colorado outshot Vancouver, 41-24, but went scoreless in four power-play opportunities while allowing two Vancouver power-play tallies. The Blue Jackets try for their second straight win after a 4-0 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
Alexander Svitov, Gilbert Brule, Anson Carter and Dan Fritsche scored for Columbus, which had lost its previous two games.
The Blue Jackets went 1-for-3 on the power play while holding Edmonton scoreless in five attempts with the extra skater. Fredrik Norrena stopped 21 shots for his first career shutout.
