Kariya's four points pace Predators past Hurricanes

Sep 24, 2006 - 3:42 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Paul Kariya, Steve Sullivan and Jason Arnott proved they were worth the wait.

Kariya collected four points, Sullivan scored a goal and set up another and Arnott added two assists as the Nashville Predators rolled to a 7-3 preseason victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Making their first appearances of the preseason, the trio dominated the scoresheet against the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes, who took a 1-0 lead on defenseman Anton Babchuk's shorthanded goal 1:46 into the game.

After setting up former Hurricane Josef Vasicek's goal at 3:11 of the second period, Kariya converted a feed from Sullivan during a power play 4 1/2 minutes later to put the Predators ahead for good.

Nashville's Martin Erat and Carolina's Ryan Bayda scored goals 57 seconds apart early in the third before Arnott assisted on a tally by Sullivan at 7:45, giving the Predators a 4-2 advantage.

Newcomer J.P. Dumont, prospect Alexander Radulov and Erat tallied in a span of 2 1/2 minutes midway through the session to put away the game.

Tomas Vokoun made 23 saves for Nashville, which posted a 5-4 victory at Carolina on Friday.

Justin Williams had a goal and an assist and defenseman Cale Hulse set up two tallies for the Hurricanes, who went 0-for-4 on the power play.
