Brunnstrom helps Stars drill Oilers

Feb 20, 2009 - 5:39 AM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Rookie Fabian Brunnstrom scored a goal and set up another as the Dallas Stars skated to a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Krystopher Barch, rookie Raymond Sawada and Jere Lehtinen also scored for the Stars, who have won back-to-back contests and 10 of their last 13 games.

"Every game right now is like a playoff game, the points are so valuable," Brunnstrom said. "It was a tough game and Edmonton played well, but I'm glad we played well and got the points."

Marty Turco made 20 saves and Mike Ribeiro collected two assists for Dallas, which opened a season-long, six-game homestand. The Stars will not play on the road until March 3.

"It was a team effort and it was a physical game," Ribeiro said. "We stayed with it, we pushed back and Marty made some big saves."

Liam Reddox and Shawn Horcoff tallied and Dwayne Roloson stopped 21 shots for the Oilers, who have lost back-to-back contests following a three-game winning streak.

"We battled hard," Roloson said. "We've just got to find a way to eliminate some of the mental mistakes."

Brunnstrom snapped a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal at 3:08 of the second period. He took a pass from Loui Eriksson and fired a one-timer between the pads of Roloson for his 13th goal of the season.

"I got a great pass from Loui and just tried to shoot it directly, and it went in," Brunnstrom said. "It was great."

Lehtinen converted a centering pass from Ribeiro at 8:17 of the final session to give the Stars a 4-2 bulge.

Sawada provided the Stars with a two-goal edge, netting a goal in his first NHL game with 3:24 left in the opening period.

"I happened to look up and saw the goalie was standing up and it was trickling through his legs," Sawada said. "I'll take anything, I don't mind. This is going to be a great memory and, hopefully, there will be many more of these to come."

"That's awesome," Stars center Steve Ott added. "It seems like everybody that has got their first game here has done something great, and it's great to see a young, enthusiastic face in the dressing room that wants to be here and wants it. A huge, huge goal for us and I know he's going to be smiling for a long time."

But Reddox answered 24 seconds later and Horcoff tallied 47 ticks into the next session to tie the game at 2-2.

"They were more disciplined than us in a number of categories," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "We didn't start all that well, started turning the puck over again. We weren't willing to get the pucks in deep and play a simple game and get pucks to the net."
