Havlat tallies twice as Blackhawks again top Blue Jackets
Sep 24, 2006 - 4:01 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Martin Havlat is proving to be a fine acquisition by the Chicago Blackhawks.Havlat scored two goals and set up another as the Blackhawks posted a 4-2 preseason victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
After sitting out Chicago's 5-2 triumph at Columbus on Friday, Havlat opened and closed the scoring in this one. Acquired from Ottawa in an offseason trade, the 25-year-old Czech netted a power-play goal at 5:34 of the first period for a 1-0 lead and provided the final margin with an empty-netter with 27 seconds remaining in the third.
Havlat also helped set up Martin Lapointe's man-advantage tally midway through the first that gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 edge.
Radim Vrbata also scored and Sebastien Caron made 18 saves and recorded an assist for Chicago, which improved to 4-0 this preseason.
Manny Malhotra and Alexandre Picard tallied for the Blue Jackets, who were outshout, 32-20.
