Brodeur, Devils seek third straight win

Mar 1, 2009 - 7:48 AM Philadelphia (33-17-10) at New Jersey (40-19-3), 1:00 p.m. EST

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur has been stellar since returning from a four-month absence. He also has gotten plenty of offensive support.

Looking to notch a third straight win, Brodeur and the Devils host the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday in a battle of Atlantic Division rivals.

A four-time Vezina Trophy-winner, Brodeur missed 50 games after tearing a distal biceps tendon in a 6-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. In his return on Thursday, he made 24 saves in blanking the Colorado Avalanche, 4-0.

In New Jersey's 7-2 triumph over the Florida Panthers on Saturday, the 36-year-old was not tested, needing to make only 15 saves.

Devils coach Brent Sutter has wasted no time in helping Brodeur shake off any rust, electing to start him for the third time in four days with this contest.

Brodeur posted his 546th career win and needs six more to surpass Patrick Roy's mark for first on the all-time list.

All-Star Zach Parise has recorded eight goals and seven assists in his last nine games.

Coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Friday, Philadelphia will welcome back Daniel Briere, who was activated from injured reserve on Saturday.

The oft-injured 31-year-old, who underwent abdominal surgery last month, has missed the last 36 games with the lingering effects of a groin strain. He underwent exploratory surgery on January 22.

An 11-year veteran, Briere has played in just nine games this season, registering five goals and nine points.

The Flyers have won five of their last seven and are 1-0-2 against the Devils this season.
