Avalanche hope to snap skid at Islanders

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The two worst teams in their respective conferences meet when the Colorado Avalanche visit the New York Islanders on Monday.

Colorado, which is wrapping up a six-game road trip, has lost four straight games and have been outscored by a 19-6 margin. The Avalanche are 2-9-0 in their last 11 road contests.

Ryan Smyth scored the lone goal as Colorado was pounded by the New York Rangers, 6-1, on Saturday.

The Avalanche, who own the worst record in the Western Conference, hope to end their slide against the Islanders, who are in the basement of the East.

New York ended the month of February on a high note, blanking Buffalo, 2-0, on Saturday. Yann Danis made 31 saves and Sean Bergenheim scored twice to lead the Islanders.

It was the team's fourth win in February, which was the most since the Islanders won eight games in November.

The meeting marks Colorado's first visit to the Nassau Coliseum since recording a 5-4 victory on December 17, 2005.
