Briere, Sabres look to regroup vs. Canadiens
Dec 9, 2006 - 5:12 PM Buffalo (21-5-2) at Montreal (16-8-4) 7:00 pm ESTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- Daniel Briere and the Buffalo Sabres had been flying high all season until they embarked on a season-high five-game road trip.
After a shaky start to the trip, the Sabres try to get back in gear when they visit their Northeast Division rival Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Buffalo, the Eastern Conference leader with 44 points, looked lethargic in a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday, and after the game, Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said the only Sabres player to play was goaltender Ryan Miller, who recorded 35 saves.
Briere scored the only goal for Buffalo, which was outshot, 38-18. Briere, who had a hat trick in a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, has four goals in his last two games.
Buffalo, which is 1-2-0 on the trip while giving up 13 goals, concludes the trek with a game at New Jersey on Tuesday.
The Canadiens, 1-1-1 in their last three games, try to build of a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Saku Koivu led the Canadiens with two goals while Guillaume Latendresse and Craig Rivet scored the other Montreal goals. Cristobal Huet made 25 saves for Montreal, which went 2-for-6 on the power play.
