Norrena seeks third straight shutout win for Blue Jackets
Dec 9, 2006 - 5:52 PM Columbus (8-16-2) at St. Louis (7-16-4) 8:00 pm ESTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets figure a hot goaltender can help them overcome a lack of goals.
Frederik Norrena looks to record his third consecutive shutout victory as the Blue Jackets seek their first three-game winning streak of the campaign Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.
Playing the finale of a five-game road trip, Columbus is last in the league in goals (58). However, the Blue Jackets have split their first six games under new coach Ken Hitchcock.
After recording his first career shutout against the Edmonton Oilers last Saturday, Norrena turned aside 42 shots for Columbus in Tuesday's 3-0 triumph over the Colorado Avalanche. Anson Carter had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets.
St. Louis has yielded 23 goals during a six-game losing streak and has dropped nine of it last 11. However, one of those victories was a 4-3 shootout win over Columbus on November 22.
Petr Cajanek scored twice in the first period and Dallas Drake added his first of the campaign in the second for the Blues, who failed to hold a three-goal lead in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
