Slumping Senators try to end skid against surging Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- After it appeared that they had broken out of their early-season doldrums the Ottawa Senators are in a mild slump again. They look to break out of it when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

The Senators, who had the most points in the Eastern Conference last season, lost their second straight in a 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday. Jason Spezza scored the lone goal for the Senators, his 15th, on the power play in the second period.

Offense has not been a problem for the Senators, whose 103 goals is the third most in the NHL.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets are starting to look like the Senators did last year. Columbus won its third straight game in a 5-1 triumph over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

The Blue Jackets have two shutouts in its win streak, downing the Edmonton Oilers, 4-0, on Saturday and the Colorado Avalanche, 3-0, on Tuesday.

In the win over the Blues, Sergei Fedorov had two goals and an assist while Fredrik Modin, Adam Foote and Gilbert Brule scored the other Columbus goals.

Columbus goaltender Fredrik Norrena made 24 saves for the Blue Jackets, who were outshot, 25-24.
