Ducks look to stay perfect on east coast swing
Dec 13, 2006 - 3:36 PM Anaheim (25-3-6) at Atlanta (18-18-5) 7:00 pm ESTATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks have the most points in the NHL and are showing why on their east-coast road trip.
The Ducks, who lead the league with 54 points, aim for their fourth straight victory on their trek when they take on the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday.
Anaheim is coming off a 5-4 victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Defenseman Chris Pronger scored the game-winning goal with nine minutes left in the third period.
Pronger tallied twice while Corey Perry, Francois Beauchemin and Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Ducks.
The Thrashers try to break a two-game losing streak in which they have been outscored, 12-3.
Atlanta was blasted, 8-0, by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday and then was dropped, 4-3, in overtime by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
Shane Hnidy, Niko Kapanen and Marian Hossa scored the goals for the Thrashers, who were outshot, 43-23, and allowed two Pittsburgh power-play goals in four opportunities.
Hossa is having an outstanding season, leading the Thrashers with 22 goals and 42 points. Hossa is tied with New York's Brendan Shanahan for the league lead in goals and ranks second in points.
Hossa's teammate, Ilya Kovalchuk, is also having a great year with 18 goals, ranking third in the league.
