Thrashers aim to snap three-game losing streak

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Thrashers try to break a three-game losing streak when they host the Washington Capitals on Friday.

The Thrashers have been outscored, 14-4, during the skid, including an 8-0 thrashing from the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 7. Atlanta's latest defeat was a 2-1 loss to the league-leading Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.

Niko Kapanen scored the lone goal for Atlanta, which converted on only 1-of-7 power-play opportunities.

Marian Hossa, who did not get on the scoresheet against the Ducks, is tied with Brendan Shanahan of the New York Rangers for the league lead in goals with 22, and is fourth in scoring with 42 points.

The Capitals are 1-1-1 in their last three games and trail the Thrashers by eight points in the Southeast Division.

Washington squandered a four-goal lead before losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-4, in a shootout. Chris Clark had two goals and an assist to lead the Capitals, who went 1-for-7 on the power play.

Alexander Ovechkin of the Capitals has 18 goals and 19 assists.
