Bergeron, Bruins face struggling Panthers

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Patrice Bergeron and the Boston Bruins want to get out of last place in the Northeast Division.

To do so, the Bruins have to beat the weaker clubs and teams that are struggling. Boston has a chance against one of those clubs when it hosts the Florida Panthers on Saturday.

However, the Panthers have beaten the Bruins in four straight meetings, including a 3-2 triumph on November 20.

The Panthers are 0-3-1 in their last four games and have only scored 10 goals. Their latest loss was a 2-1 defeat in Buffalo against the Sabres on Thursday. Jozef Stumpel scored the only goal for Florida, which outshot Buffalo, 33-16.

Olli Jokinen, who leads the Panthers with 13 goals, has not scored in his last four games. Boston recorded a rare win against the New Jersey Devils, 5-3, on Thursday, which snapped a five-game losing streak against the Devils.

Bergeron led Boston with two goals while Brad Boyes had a goal and two assists. The Bruins took advantage of the power play against the Devils, scoring on 3-of-7 opportunities with the extra skater.
