AOC restructured after bullying claims

Dec 18, 2017 - 2:29 AM The Australian Olympic Committee has finalised a restructure in response to claims of bullying within the organisation.

The AOC has appointed Strath Gordon as head of public affairs and communications in a newly-badged role previously filled by Mike Tancred.

Tancred departed as media director in September despite being cleared of workplace bullying allegations.

The AOC has also appointed Amie Wallis to the newly-created role of head of people and culture.

The roles were created in response to an independent review which found a dysfunctional workplace culture at the AOC.

An Ethics Centre report, released last August, found many AOC staffers reported senior leaders undermined and were hostile towards each other.

The report also found a lack of transparency in decision-making, and poor communication, within the peak Olympic body.

Many staff told the review some people had stayed in the organisation too long, which was a key plank in the failed campaign to win the AOC presidency by ex-Olympian Danni Roche.

Roche challenged John Coates for the AOC in May, with the incumbent Coates retaining the role.
