Pullin in form as Winter Games edge closer
Dec 23, 2017 - 1:40 AM Alex Pullin has retained top spot in the snowboard cross World Cup rankings after he claimed bronze in the latest event in Italy.The dual Olympian is one of Australia's best hopes for gold at next year's Pyeongchang Winter Games is top of the leaderboard by 506 points.
"I had a good race and very happy to get a podium and continue to lead the World Cup standings," Pullin said.
"The conditions were challenging with high wind which changed the speed of the features, but I managed to keep a good rhythm and make it to the podium."
Pullin opened his season with a double gold weekend in Argentina and began his campaign in Cervinia by qualifying second fastest of 79 competitors on his first run; to guarantee a top-16 seeding.
He entered the 32-man finals along with countrymen Cam Bolton and Adam Lambert, who got through after their second qualifying runs.
Pullin and Lambert won their heats in the opening round of the finals.
However, only Pullin progressed to the medal race with Bolton finishing 10th and Lambert 12th.
Pullin, 30, has claimed 21 World Cup medals in an international career that began in 2007 and which includes back-to-back World Championship wins and Crystal Globes.
