Edwards wins Nationwide race at Richmond

Sep 8, 2008 - 1:39 AM RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Carl Edwards took the checkered flag Sunday night, winning the Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Edwards, who finished 13th at the Sprint Cup race earlier Sunday, passed Clint Bowyer with 30 laps to go and pulled away from the field before cruising to his fourth Nationwide series victory over the season.

The series points leader, Bowyer had dominated most of the race but struggled after his final pit stop and finished third. He still holds a 207-point lead over Edwards in the standings.

Bowyer still had plenty to celebrate, as he secured the 12th and final spot in NASCAR's "Chase for the Championship" earlier Sunday in the Sprint Cup race.

As Bowyer battled with Scott Wimmer in the final laps, Edwards' Ford pulled away from the pack and crossed the finish line well in front of Wimmer, who finished second in a Chevrolet.

Denny Hamlin placed fourth and David Ragan, who narrowly missed out on the "Chase," rounded out the top five.

The grandson of car owner Richard Childress, Austin Dillon made his first career start and finished 26th.
