Edwards increases points lead with Busch Series Dover 200 win

Jun 2, 2007 - 11:22 PM DOVER, Delaware (Ticker) -- Carl Edwards put even more distance between himself and the rest of the NASCAR Busch Series field.

Driving a Ford Fusion, Edwards won the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway on Saturday for his third victory of the season. Edwards averaged 92.975 miles per hour and earned $49,575 for the win.

The race ended under caution due to an accident involving the Fords of Greg Biffle and Ward Burton on the final lap.

The win increased Edwards' lead in the Busch standings to a staggering 472 points over defending champion Kevin Harvick, who piloted his Chevrolet Monte Carlo to a seventh-place finish. Edwards has 11 top-10 finishes in 14 races this season.

With 14 laps to go, Edwards sped away from the Chevrolet of pole-sitter Denny Hamlin and the Ford of Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth off a restart, cruising to the easy victory.

"Denny is really good on restarts and I'm just glad he didn't wreck me," Edwards said. "We had a really good car and it's just great to win here at Dover."

Scott Wimmer started second in a Chevrolet and came home third. Casey Mears was fourth in a Chevrolet followed by Kenseth, who last pitted on lap 118.

Kasey Kahne, who won last week's Carquest Auto Parts 300, finished 12th in a Dodge Charger.

Defending race champion Jeff Burton finished 19th in a Chevrolet.
