Sorenson wins Busch Gateway 250

Jul 22, 2007 - 4:04 AM MADISON, Illinois (Ticker) - Reed Sorenson is back in Victory Lane at Gateway International Raceway.

The 21-year-old dominated the field Saturday night in his Dodge Charger to win the NASCAR Busch Series Gateway 250. It was Sorenson's third career Busch Series victory and first since taking the checkered flag here in 2005. He also won at Nashville in 2005.

Scott Wimmer, who started from the pole, was unable to chase Sorenson down in the final laps of the race and finished second in a Ford Fusion.

The Toyota Camrys of David Reutimann and Jason Leffler finished third and fourth, respectively. David Ragan brought his Ford home fifth.

Series leader Carl Edwards, who won this race a year ago, hit the wall in his Ford with 22 laps to go, but rebounded to finish sixth. It was his first top-10 finish in his past three races.

Edwards holds a commanding 852-point lead over Reutimann in the standings. Reutimann moved up a spot to second place, ahead of Kevin Harvick, who is not running a full Busch series schedule and was not entered in this race.

Sorenson passed Reutimann with 41 laps remaining and had a strong restart to survive the race's final caution.

Wimmer led the first 53 laps before pitting with a flat tire.

There were nine cautions, and only 26 cars finished, with 14 on the lead lap. The yellow flag flew for 43 of the 200 laps.
