Kvapil wins his fourth race, takes NCTS Smith's Las Vegas 350
Sep 23, 2007 - 4:08 AM LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- After capturing the pole, Travis Kvapil took home the prize.Kvapil held off the advances of Johnny Benson and Jon Wood to win Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Smith's Las Vegas 350.
It was the fourth victory of the season for Kvapil, who finished first in a Ford F-150.
The 31-year-old Kvapil, who captured his third pole of the season and fourth of his career earlier in the day, took the lead for good after the race was halted with just under 10 laps remaining because of a crash involving series leader Ron Hornaday.
Hornaday, who was riding in second place with 12 laps left, saw the front left tire of his Chevrolet Silverado explode, sending sparks and pieces of rubber all over Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Hornaday, who finished in 22nd place, saw his slim 29-point lead in the series standings disappear when Mike Skinner, in a Toyota Tundra, finish in 13th place.
Skinner, who qualified second for this event, now leads Hornaday by three points.
After the race was restarted, Kvapil pulled away from the lead bunch, which included Benson, who finished second in a Toyota and the Ford of Jon Wood, who came in third.
The second-place finish for Benson was his best finish on the season and gives him four top-10s in the last six races.
Terry Cook and Erik Darnell, in a pair of Toyotas, completed the top 5.
Jacques Villeneuve, driving a Toyota, and Buddy Lazier in a Chevy, became the first two former Indy 500 winners to race together in a Truck Series event.
Villeneuve finished a lap down in 21st place, while Lazier was three laps back in 24th.
