Busch easily wins San Bernardino County 200
Feb 23, 2008 - 10:10 PM FONTANA, California (Ticker) -- Kyle Busch finally found his way to Victory Lane.After a pair of second-place finishes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Nationwide Series events, followed by a fourth in the Sprint Cup Daytona 500 last week, Busch cruised to an easy victory Saturday in the San Bernardino County 200.
It was Busch's seventh Craftsman Truck series win and first in California as he led 51 of 100 laps in a Toyota Tundra and crossed the finish lane over three seconds ahead of Todd Bodine.
"Well, Todd got going there pretty good but my truck was great," said Busch, who started 20th and took the lead for the first time just 24 laps in. "The guys gave me an awesome truck, just like last week in Daytona.
Following Bodine's Toyota were the Toyota's of Johnny Benson and Terry Cook, along with polesitter Ron Hornaday Jr.'s Chevrolet Silverado.
Bodine momentarily took the lead from Busch on lap 58, but Busch took it back before the green flag pit stops and eventually cycled back to the front where he cruised to the easy win.
"The truck was really good," said Bodine, who won last week's race at Daytona. "It was a good day - first last week and second today."
Benson also finished third last week in Daytona.
"I had to come from the back two weeks in a row," said Benson, who started at the rear of the field. "We just made some minor adjustments, changed the air pressure a little, and had a great run."
Rain washed out Friday's qualifying session at the Auto Club Speedway, giving Hornaday the pole for Saturday's race based on last season's owner's points.
Bodine took the lead on lap 18, and kept the point until Busch passed him six laps later.
Last year's winner of this race, Mike Skinner, had a loose spark plug wire and dropped to the rear early in the race before rallying for an eighth-place finish.
Rounding out the top 10 was Ted Musgrave in a Toyota, Travis Kvapil's Ford F-150, Skinner, Colin Braun's Ford and Phillip McGilton's Toyota.
