Harvick snares pole for Kansas Lottery 300

Sep 27, 2008 - 4:51 PM KANSAS CITY, Kansas (Ticker) - Kevin Harvick captured the pole Saturday morning for the Kansas Lottery 300.

Harvick, who is in 18th place in the Nationwide Series standings, turned in a fast lap of 172.227 miles per hour at Kansas Speedway to earn his first pole of the season.

In a Chevrolet, Harvick clocked 31.354 seconds to edge the Chevrolet of Mark Martin, who negotiated the 1 1/2-mile tri-oval in 31.433 seconds.

David Stremme gave Chevrolet the first three slots before Carl Edwards came in fourth in a Ford with a time of 31.499 seconds.

Edwards is in second place in the Nationwide standings, 186 points behind Clint Bowyer, who will start in seventh place for Saturday afternoon's race.

It was the 24th top-10 finish for Bowyer, who only has one victory in the series this season.

Kyle Busch, who is coming off a victory last weekend at Dover and needs two more wins to tie Sam Ard's single-season mark of 10 set in 1983, encountered mechanical problems and will start 18th.
