Hamlin wins Kansas Lottery 300

Sep 27, 2008 - 10:27 PM KANSAS CITY, Kansas (Ticker) -- Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag Saturday, cruising to his fourth Nationwide Series victory of the season at the Kansas Lottery 300.

Hamlin's dominance was just another showcase for Joe Gibbs Racing, which has won 17 Nationwide races this year.

Hamlin grabbed the lead during a series of pitstops midway through the race and never look back from there. The Toyota of Hamlin led 99 of the 200 laps at the 1.5-mile oval.

The 27-year-old Hamlin spent the latter stages of the race weaving his way through lap traffic, allowing Clint Bowyer to gain ground. But Hamlin still won easily, crossing the start-finish line nearly 1 1/2 seconds in front of the second-place finisher.

It was Hamlin's ninth career win in the series.

Bowyer continued to put a stanglehold on the points championship, extending his lead in the series to 196 points over Carl Edwards.

David Ragan and Edwards took third and fourth, respectively, while Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five.

Pole-sitter Kevin Harvick dominated the early portion of the race but finished 13th.
