Oct 28, 2016 - 5:32 AM Manly assistant John Cartwright will join Laurie Daley's NSW coaching staff next year as the Blues overhaul their State of Origin preparations.Cartwright, a former NSW teammate of Daley's, will join the Blues alongside Victoria Cross recipient Mark Donaldson, who has been appointed as assistant team manager.
"John is a well-respected and credentialed coach and has played at the highest level of the game, for NSW and Australia," Daley said on Friday.
"Mark Donaldson VC is an incredible man who was involved with the Blues in camps two and three this year in a mentoring capacity."
"He will add a new dimension to our program, for both the staff and players, with his integrity and values aligned with the culture and team values we aspire to."
Former Gold Coast coach Cartwright was delighted to be involved.
"It was a major surprise to be asked by Laurie to be involved," Cartwright said.
"I was overseas when I got the call and couldn't contain my excitement."
"It is a very exciting time to be involved and a great honour."
Donaldson said: "I feel honoured and humbled to be accepted into such an exclusive team.
"The commitment to each other that the team showed this year was inspiring and the opportunity to be involved and engaged in that journey into the future for me will be about growing on that success."
The Blues also announced a the formation of a leadership program "to identify and develop leaders in the current and future generations".
And a new specialist training program, involving ex-Blues players working with specific positional groups.
NSW will also take a different approach to preparation next year than they have since Daley started his tenure in 2013.
The Blues will prepare for game two in Sydney at a local location and for games one and three in Brisbane, they will prepare outside Sydney.
NSW management are yet to decide if that will be at their long-term home at Coffs Harbour or not.
