Brown possessed by lack of ball control
Apr 29, 2017 - 6:00 PM Newcastle's season of horror continues after a 38-8 drubbing at the hands of a reinvigorated Gold Coast in round nine of the NRL.The Knights have won just one match this season and have lost 26 of their last 27 games. Coach Nathan Brown says the lack of possession is ruining any chances of his young side turning it around.
"When the weight of possession keeps going against us as it does we can't mentally hang through it long enough like the top sides do," he said.
"Those teams might leak a try or if they leak two they find a way to get back in the contest, through their experience of mental capacity.
"If we leak two tries our attack goes poor then the good players we have don't look like they're good players anymore."
The Knights only had 37 per cent of the ball against the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium and Brown says that must be improved upon.
"We need to look for ways to get the ball back a little bit better, whether it's forcing an error, a bit more aggressive defence or competing for kicks a bit better," he said.
"We need to work out ways so every week we're not losing the possession battle.
Newcastle were the first team on the board when Sam Stone scored his second NRL try in the 13th minute but they could only add a penalty goal before the Titans strung together seven consecutive tries.
Defence has been a constant battle for the Knights in their run of outs, who concede the most points per game in the NRL (27) and most tries per game (4.9).
