Hasler perfect choice for NSW: Gould
Sep 6, 2017 - 7:11 AM Embattled Bulldogs coach Des Hasler looms as the perfect replacement for Laurie Daley in next year's State of Origin series says Phil Gould.NSW's most successful coach said two-time premiership winner Hasler has the passion and professionalism needed to guide the Blues.
"He's meticulous, he's intense and he's determined, and that's what you want in a coach," Gould said on his Six Tackles With Gus podcast on Wednesday.
Speculation remains that Hasler is set to be jettisoned from his role at the Bulldogs after missing the finals and finishing 11th in a disappointing 2017 NRL campaign.
Hasler was an assistant coach to Gould during the Blues' successful 2003 series.
"He was quite valuable during that series," Gould said.
Gould, the winner of six State of Origin series as coach, said once Hasler set his mind to something he was going to do it.
"If Des decides to he's going to climb Mt Everest, he'll climb it, they won't stop him," Gould said.
