Ireland locked in for June rugby visit
Oct 18, 2017 - 3:05 AM The Wallabies will host world No.4-ranked Ireland next June in a three-Test series, the Australian Rugby Union has confirmed. The matches will take place at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium (June 9), Melbourne's AAMI Park (June 16) and Sydney's Allianz Stadium (June 23).
It will be the first time the Lansdowne Cup has been contested over a three-match series, and Ireland's first tour of Australia since 2010.
"The rivalry between the two nations has grown enormously in recent years with some memorable encounters," ARU chief executive Bill Pulver said.
"With a huge number of Irish expats living in Australia, Ireland will enjoy strong support when they are here for matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney."
The Irish have won their last two encounters with the Wallabies but have a poor record in Australia, winning just three times in 14 matches - the last coming in 1979.
They shape as a formidable opponent and precisely the kind of challenge coach Michael Cheika will want in the middle of next year as the team build towards the 2019 World Cup.
