Rebels add ex-Force Super halfback Ruru
Dec 13, 2017 - 12:18 AM The Melbourne Rebels have completed their Super Rugby squad by signing former Western Force halfback Michael Ruru until the end of the 2019 season. The 26-year-old made his way through the club ranks in Perth to play for the Perth Spirit in the NRC and then to the now-defunct Force as first-choice No 9.
He was reportedly on the radar of Wallabies coach Michael Cheika as a bolter for the Spring tour.
"Mike hasn't always had things his own way and has really lived in the real world over the last few years - his recent success is driven by his enthusiasm and work ethic," said new Rebels coach Dave Wessels, who coached Ruru at the Force.
"He is a genuine competitor that will be very good for our group."
The arrival of Ruru will put further pressure on former captain Nic Stirzaker, with Wallabies halfback Will Genia also joining the Rebels.
