Nagamura nets two as Chivas wade Rapids

Mar 22, 2009 - 5:42 AM CARSON, California (AP) -- Paulo Nagamura scored two second-half goals and Chivas USA beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night in the regular-season opener for both teams.

Chivas has won its home opener in four consecutive seasons.

In the 30th minute, Ugo Ihemelu sent a shot on goal from the edge of the penalty area but Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton stopped the attempt. However, he left a rebound and Cummings knocked the ball into the back of the net.

Nagamura tied the score in the 55th minute on a 25-yard shot that rolled past Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens. Four minutes later, Nagamura fired a low hard shot from 15 yards out and tucked it into the back of the net.
