Cooke, Cummings carry Rapids past Wizards

Mar 29, 2009 - 4:11 AM COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (AP) -- Terry Cooke and Omar Cummings scored to give the Colorado Rapids a 2-1 victory over Kansas City in Colorado's season home opener Saturday night.

Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman had four saves to become the all-time saves leader in MLS with 1,139, topping former Kansas City star Tony Meola. Hartman had entered the game two stops shy of surpassing Meola but with the league record for wins already in hand.

Cooke's unassisted goal in the 65th minute gave the Rapids an early lead, but Michael Kraus tied it four minutes later.

Cummings scored in the 74th minute to put the Rapids ahead for good. Colin Clark picked up the assist.
