Mastroeni lifts Rapids past Revolution

Apr 25, 2010 - 1:51 AM FOXBORO, Mass.(AP) -- Pablo Mastroeni scored in the 73rd minute to help the Colorado Rapids beat the New England Revolution 2-1 on Saturday night.

Colorado improved to 3-1-1 with its third straight victory, while the Revolution fell to 2-3 with their second consecutive loss.

Mastroeni scored on a 25-yard ground-hugging drive off a feed from Connor Casey.

The Rapids took the lead in the 14th minute on Mehdi Bellouchy's goal, a strong right-footed shot from atop the right corner of the penalty box to the far left corner of the New England net, past Revolution goalie Preston Burpo.

The Revolution tied it in the 19th minute when Serbian international midfielder Marko Perovic laced a left-footed direct kick from atop the right side of the penalty box just inside the top right crossbar and goal post beyond Rapids goalie Matt Pickens.

A crowd of 8,142 attended the game at Gillette Stadium.
