Le Toux leads Union past United 3-2 in home opener
Apr 11, 2010 - 12:22 AM PHILADELPHIA(AP) -- Sebastien Le Toux scored three goals, including the tiebreaker in the 80th minute, Alejandro Moreno added two assists and the expansion Philadelphia Union won their inaugural home game with a 3-2 victory over D.C. United on Saturday.The game was played at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles. After one more game here in May, the Union (1-1-0) will then move to their new stadium in nearby Chester, located about 15 miles away.
Already leading 1-0, Le Toux extended Philadelphia's advantage in the 40th minute on a terrific pass across the field from Moreno.
D.C. cut the lead to 2-1 in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal by Santino Quaranta. Jaime Moreno tied the game at 2 in the 70th minute after a bizarre sequence. Union goalkeeper Chris Seitz dropped the ball outside the box, Moreno gathered the ball and scored in one motion.
In the 78th minute, Dejan Jakovic was called for a red card against Philadelphia's Moreno. Le Toux took the kick after the foul and scored from about 20 yards out for a 3-2 advantage in the 80th minute.
Philadelphia dropped the season opener 2-0 at Seattle on March 25.
United (0-3-0) had been shut out in the first two games by a combined score of 6-0 against Kansas City and New England.
