Philadelphia pummels Toronto FC at BMO Field, 6-2

May 28, 2011 - 6:43 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Justin Mapp and Danny Mwanga both scored twice and the Philadelphia Union pummeled Toronto FC, 6-2, at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon in Major League Soccer.

Gabriel Farfan and Kyle Nakazawa also scored for Philadelphia (6-3-2), which sits atop the Eastern Conference with 20 points, just 11 fewer than it totaled in 30 matches last season as an expansion team.

Maicon Santos scored twice for Toronto FC (2-5-6), which now has just one win in its last 11 games.

Philadelphia dominated the opening 15 minutes, as Farfan scored with less than two minutes off the clock and Mapp followed just after the 10-minute mark.

Farfan settled a cross from Jordan Harvey with his chest, then drove a shot to the lower-left corner from 15 yards to beat Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Mapp then picked out the bottom right in the 11th, beating Frei from 25 yards.

Nakazawa capped a fast attack in the 44th minute with a shot to the lower left from 15 yards, finishing off the final pass from Danny Mwanga, as Philadelphia pushed its lead to three goals before half.

Toronto pulled a goal back five minutes after half when Santos broke away and rounded Union goalie Faryd Mondragon outside the area before slotting into an empty net.

Santos then added his fifth of the season in the 59th, running onto a cross by substitute Danleigh Borman to score into an empty net from just a few yards.

Mapp halted the rally just three minutes later, as he settled the ball outside the area and drove to the edge of the 18 before drilling another left-footed shot inside the left post to restore the Union's two-goal lead.

Mwanga sealed the Union's win when he turned a corner kick from Sebastien Le Toux past Frei in the 71st for his second goal of the season. Mwanga added his second goal in the 89th, finishing from close range to cap the impressive win.

Philadelphia stays on the road for its next match, June 4 at the defending MLS Cup champion the Colorado Rapids. Toronto also plays its next MLS game June 4, another home match against Sporting Kansas City.
