Galaxy edge Chivas to finish unbeaten at home

Oct 17, 2011 - 3:28 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy concluded its regular season at The Home Depot Center in typical winning fashion on Saturday, defeating Chivas USA 1-0 in the latest edition of the SuperClasico.

Chad Barrett headed home the winner in the 53rd minute to help the Galaxy become just the third team in Major League Soccer history to remain unbeaten at home in the regular season.

Prior to his match-winner, Barrett terrorized the Chivas defense with numerous goal-scoring opportunities. He nearly scored in the first minute, but after rounding Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, his shot was cleared off the line by Andrew Boyens.

Barrett again came within inches of giving the Galaxy the lead, heading a Todd Dunivant cross off the post in the 39th minute.

But his persistence paid off, as Barrett notched his seventh goal of the campaign with a header early in the second half to secure L.A.'s 19th win of the season. Adam Cristman provided the assist.

Los Angeles (19-4-10) has enjoyed a superb year. Results down the stretch had previously clinched the MLS Supporters' Shield for the Galaxy, who will wrap up their regular season on Oct. 23 against the Houston Dynamo.

Chivas (8-13-12) had little on the line Sunday night, having been already eliminated from playoff contention. The Goats will aim to end their season with a positive result when they host Seattle Sounders FC on Oct. 22.
