Koevermans rescues a point for TFC
Oct 22, 2011 - 6:46 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Danny Koevermans scored in the 83rd minute to help Toronto FC close out its season with a 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution at BMO Field on Saturday.Koevermans had a hand in the opening goal after 20 minutes when he tracked down a ball from Julian de Guzman and drove a low cross to the front of the net for Nick Soolsma, who beat goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth with a first-time finish.
The two nearly combined again a few minutes later when the Dutchman released Soolsma into the area, but Shuttleworth produced a save from eight yards.
New England entered the match having lost its last five games but the visitors leveled the contest shortly before halftime as Benny Feilhaber's cross was flicked past goalkeeper Milos Kocic by the head of Monsef Zerka.
It took just 30 seconds into the second half for the Revs to seize the lead as a giveaway in the defensive third for Toronto allowed Feilhaber to slide a pass through the face of goal for Milton Caraglio, who easily finished off the play at the back post.
Kocic kept TFC in the game with a nice save on Zerka 15 minutes from time, and it proved important as Koevermans tallied the equalizer eight minutes later by collecting a flicked header from Gianluca Zavarise and depositing the ball into the net.
Toronto finishes the campaign with nine points from its final six games, while New England managed to record just five wins this season, the lowest in franchise history.
