RSL goes top of the West after scoreless draw vs. Fire

May 10, 2012 - 3:15 AM Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake moved into first place in the Western Conference on Wednesday despite being held to a 0-0 draw by the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park.

The Claret and Cobalt, unbeaten in their last four league matches, move one point ahead of the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC. Real Salt Lake's 23 points is tops in all of Major League Soccer.

Chicago got off to a cracking start Wednesday night, hitting the woodwork inside the opening four minutes. Patrick Nyarko broke free on the right flank and chipped a perfect cross into the box but Dominic Oduro's free header from close range rattled the crossbar.

The near-goal early on failed to set the tone as the match fizzled out in tame fashion.

Both sides return to action Saturday as Real Salt Lake (7-3-2) continues its road trip at CenturyLink Field for a tilt against the Sounders while Chicago (3-2-3) stays home for a meeting with Sporting Kansas City.
