N.Y. goes for sixth straight win vs. Chivas

May 22, 2012 - 9:43 PM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York has a chance to go for a franchise-best sixth straight league win Wednesday when it hosts Chivas USA at Red Bull Arena.

New York tied its longest winning streak in nine years on Saturday when it came from behind to earn a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact despite playing down a man for more than 30 minutes.

"It was a brilliant performance. It's five in a row now, with a quite inexperienced team. You can't demand anything else," said Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe. "It's almost shocking to pick up wins like that. But the way they work, the way they get their shape quick, defending against set plays, defending in open play, the build-up, that's the key to winning in this league."

Heath Pearce made his Red Bulls debut in the defeat of Montreal. The 27-year- old was acquired in a trade with Chivas which saw Juan Agudelo head to the West Coast club.

Agudelo will not be available for the match after receiving a call-up to join the U.S. national team, but that doesn't mean that a former Red Bull can't spoil the occasion.

Juan Pablo Angel spent roughly four years with the Red Bulls before moving to the Los Angeles Galaxy. When things didn't work out in the Colombian's second stint under Bruce Arena, he was traded to the Goats and has been performing admirably ever since. Angel bagged seven goals in nine matches with Chivas last season and has added one more this term.

Chivas is coming off of a morale-boosting Super Clasico victory over the Galaxy at the weekend. The Goats narrowly escaped The Home Depot Center with a 1-0 win thanks to a penalty kick from Jose Erick Correa, who leads the team with two goals in just three appearances this season.

With its third shutout of the season, Chivas has conceded just 12 goals through 11 games this year, ranking the Goats fifth defensively in 2012.

"I thought (our defending) was very resolute. I thought they did a very good job of adapting as the night went on," said Chivas head coach Robin Fraser. "I thought as a group, not just the defenders, but the entire team did a good job of reading things that were dangerous. I'm really proud of their defensive performance."

The Goats will have the dubious task of trying to contain an offensive unit that is tied with D.C. United for the league lead in scoring with 25 goals on the season.
