Donovan's double secures win for Galaxy in Super Clasico

Jul 22, 2012 - 4:05 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Landon Donovan's second-half brace lifted the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 3-1 win over Chivas USA in the second edition of this season's Super Clasico on Saturday.

Robbie Keane put the Galaxy in front after 14 minutes and Donovan doubled the advantage shortly after halftime.

Former Galaxy man Paolo Cardozo pulled Chivas to within a goal a few minutes later, but Donovan put the result out of reach with his second goal of the contest and ninth of the season 12 minutes from time.

The result snaps a four-game unbeaten run for the Goats, while the Galaxy has claimed three wins and a draw from its last four matches.

David Beckham was the architect of the opening goal as he played a well- weighted through ball into the path of Keane, who tracked it down and slotted his shot past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

Ben Zemanski had one of the few chances for Chivas in the first half with a long-range effort that was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders.

But Donovan stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute when Keane turned provider to set up Donovan's eighth goal of the campaign.

Cardozo made it 2-1 a few minutes later when he sent a shot whistling past Saunders at his near post, while Donovan continued to cause problems as he saw a shot strike the woodwork.

Donovan was denied again by the post in the 76th minute following a cross from Keane, but he found the net shortly after by pouncing on a loose ball inside the area following a corner kick to stab home his second tally of the match and put the game away.
