D.C. maintains unbeaten run with draw vs. Montreal

Apr 19, 2012 - 1:46 AM Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - D.C. United surrendered a second-half lead but battled back to extend its unbeaten streak to five games after a 1-1 draw with the Montreal Impact at RFK Stadium on Wednesday.

Bernardo Corradi had put the Impact in front midway through the second period, but United avoided defeat yet again with Maicon Santos equalizing shortly after.

D.C. nearly opened the scoring early in the second half when Dwayne De Rosario found himself one-on-one with Montreal goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, but the Jamaican produced a brilliant save at the edge of the box to deny the Canadian. United kept play alive as the Impact failed to clear their lines, but several quick half-chances were properly dealt with by the visitors before a wayward shot sailed over the bar to calm the proceedings.

Montreal eventually took the lead in the 68th minute against the run of play. Second-half substitute Lamar Neagle broke free on the right wing and whipped a pinpoint curling cross to the back post to find Corradi. The Italian striker eclipsed his mark and headed home the delivery from close range.

It didn't take long for the home side to draw level though as Santos uncorked an equalizer four minutes later. After collecting a pass from Perry Kitchen, Santos was given the freedom to drift inside, and he made the Impact defense pay as he ripped a low shot just inside the post for his fourth goal of the season.

Santos thought he had netted a late winner when he tucked home a low cross from De Rosario, but United's leading scorer was ruled to be in an offside position when the ball was played and the goal did not stand.

The disallowed goal in the dying minutes denied D.C. the chance to secure back to back-to-back league wins for the first time since June of 2009. Instead, the draw sees expansion side Montreal pick up its first road point in Major League Soccer after beginning its travels with an 0-5-0 record.

D.C. (2-2-3) has alternated ties and wins over its last five fixtures to improve to nine points on the season. Ben Olsen's men will return to action Sunday when they host Red Bull New York.

Montreal (1-5-2) will enjoy a short hiatus as the club will not suit up again until April 28 when it welcomes the Portland Timbers to the Olympic Stadium.
