Sporting KC, Revolution play to scoreless draw at Gillette

Mar 23, 2013 - 10:23 PM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City continued its slow start to the 2013 campaign after settling for a 0-0 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

Sporting KC opened the season with a comfortable 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union, but has dropped points in each of their last two matches after a scoreless stalemate with Chicago Fire last week.

Chances were few and far between for both sides throughout the 90 minutes, but Kansas City's best chance of the first half came in the 19th minute when a loose ball fell to the feet of former New England man Benny Feilhaber, who ripped a shot on goal inside the Revolution penalty area, but Matt Reis was there to make the save.

New England's best two chances of the afternoon came in the second half when Lee Nguyen fired a free kick from just outside the Sporting penalty area toward the back post, but no one could get a head on it and it fell harmlessly out of play.

The Revolution were awarded another free kick from a dangerous area in the 75th minute. Juan Toja stepped up to take the kick, but he got well under the ball and it sailed over Jimmy Nielsen's net as each side settled for a point apiece.

Sporting KC will look to get back on the winning track next Saturday at Sporting Park against Montreal, while New England will battle FC Dallas.
