Sputtering Sounders fall to RSL
Mar 31, 2013 - 3:11 AM Sandy, UT (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC continued its worst start to an MLS season on Saturday as the club sustained a 2-1 defeat against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.RSL took a 2-0 lead into halftime after a dominant first 45 minutes with goals from Robbie Findley and Luis Gil, while Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning did well to keep his side that close.
Brad Evans scored for the Sounders in the 57th minute to cut the deficit in half, but it wasn't enough to prevent Seattle from suffering its third defeat in four games, leaving the club with just one point.
Findley tallied his first goal for Salt Lake since returning in the eighth minute when he scored from six yards after some good work by Devon Sandoval.
A corner kick 10 minutes before the break handed the hosts their second goal as Sebastian Velasquez played the ball into the area for Ned Grabavoy, who flicked it on for Gil to head home.
Joao Plata came on as a substitute before the break in place of Findley, who left the match injured, and only a nice stop from Gspurning on the former Toronto FC man prevented a third goal.
Seattle got back into the game in the 57th when DeAndre Yedlin's cross was redirected off the post and into the net by Evans. But the Sounders seemed to run out of ideas after the goal and Salt Lake was the more dangerous team over the final 30 minutes.
