Traore leaves it late for Seattle
May 9, 2013 - 2:41 AM Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - It certainly wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing performance of the season, but Djimi Traore's goal on the final kick of the game handed Seattle Sounders FC a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park on Wednesday. After a dull 90 minutes that saw neither side generate much in the final third, Traore took advantage of a failed clearance to score on the last kick of the match, handing Seattle its second win of the season, while Sporting has lost three of its last four to fall three points back of the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
The only real scoring opportunities for either side both came in the opening 20 minutes as Sporting's Peterson Joseph curled a shot just wide from the top of the penalty area.
Seattle's chance arrived six minutes later in the 20th minute when Brad Evans headed a cross from Mario Martinez just over the crossbar.
Sporting forward Kei Kamara was introduced in the second half after returning from his loan spell at Norwich City in England, but he was unable to bring a drab contest to life.
However, an innocent throw in made its way toward the middle of the penalty area, where Sporting defender Aurelien Collin whiffed on a clearing attempt, allowing Traore to take advantage and smack the ball past a helpless Jimmy Nielsen in the Sporting net.
