Castillo's goal enough as FCD holds off San Jose

May 26, 2013 - 2:43 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Fabian Castillo scored in the 33rd minute and the FC Dallas defense held on for a 1-0 home win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

After a nine-match unbeaten run was snapped in Seattle last weekend, Dallas was eager to start a new streak on Saturday, and Castillo's first-half tally got them off to a good start.

The goal came on the counter attack and it was led by David Ferreira, who dashed through midfield and played the ball wide on the right to Castillo. He cut back past a defender and curled a shot inside the left post for a classy finish.

San Jose came within inches of leveling the contest before halftime, but a volley from Victor Bernardez struck the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Jon Busch kept the 'Quakes within a goal when he saved a shot from Castillo in a one-on-one situation, while Marvin Chavez went close with a free kick for the visitors.

The Earthquakes pressed for an equalizer in the final 10 minutes, but Chris Wondolowski was twice denied by Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, who parried a volley in the 81st minute before producing a diving save in stoppage time to deny another Wondolowski effort.
