Zimmerman leaves it late as FCD earns draw with Sporting
Jun 23, 2013 - 2:43 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas salvaged a 2-2 home draw against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday as Andrew Jacobson and Walker Zimmerman scored goals in the final two minutes to cap a furious comeback.Sporting took a 2-0 lead into the final 30 minutes with a penalty kick from Kei Kamara and an own goal from Je-Vaughn Watson.
However, Sporting was reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute when C.J. Sapong was sent off.
Dallas then provided the late heroics with Jacobson's flicked header making it 2-1 before Zimmerman netted his first goal of the season in the 90th minute.
The rally denied the visitors their second win in six games, while Dallas will be pleased with a point.
Dallas was the more dangerous side in the first half as both Kenny Cooper and David Ferreira were denied by the post.
But despite the pressure, Sporting took the lead against the run of play when Graham Zusi's free kick struck the arm of Dallas defender Zach Loyd.
Kamara buried the spot kick, and another Zusi set piece helped Kansas City double its lead after the break.
Zusi swung a corner kick into the box and it skipped off the ground and went into the net off the chest of Watson.
It looked like one of those nights for Dallas, but Sapong was sent off after a collision with Jacobson, and Ramon Nunez set up the first goal for Dallas with a chipped ball that Jacobson flicked past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.
The hosts then won a corner kick and took advantage as Ferreira's driven ball found the head of Zimmerman after he shook free from his defender to level the match.
