Camilo's PK lifts 'Caps over DCU

Jun 30, 2013 - 1:29 AM Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - Camilo's second-half penalty kick was enough to lift the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday at RFK Stadium.

Both teams had a bevy of scoring chances over the first 45 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net as the side went into the break on level terms.

But the match swung in favor of the visitors three minutes into the second half when Vancouver's Matt Watson broke in on goal alone. Watson's touch let him down and he had to hustle to catch up to the ball as United goalkeeper Bill Hamid came off his line.

Hamid dove for the ball but clipped Watson in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Vancouver.

Camilo stepped up to the spot and smashed it into the roof of the net for his ninth goal of the season to put the Whitecaps ahead.

Following the tally, D.C. United pushed forward looking for an equalizer on home soil, but it never came as the Whitecaps held on to claim all three points.

The result gives Vancouver its third consecutive victory, while United failed to build on last week's victory over San Jose.
