Impact held to draw by FC Dallas

Jul 21, 2013 - 1:14 AM Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - The Montreal Impact failed to take advantage of their home field on Saturday as the club was held to a scoreless draw by FC Dallas at Saputo Stadium.

Scoring chances were at a premium over the opening 45 minutes, but FC Dallas had the better of the play early on and the first good chance in the 11th minute when Eric Hassli had a go from inside the Montreal penalty area, but it was parried out of play by Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins.

The visitors had another golden opportunity to find the back of the net a bit later on a free kick from Kenny Cooper. It was headed on target by defender George John, but sailed over the bar.

Montreal's best chance came in the 26th minute when Justin Mapp collected a loose ball just outside the box and ripped a left-footed strike, but it smashed the crossbar and stayed out.

Scoring opportunities were even harder to come by in the second half as the clubs combined for just six shots on target over the course of the 90 minutes and were forced to settle for a point apiece.

The result sees the Impact pull even with Red Bull New York for second place in the East on 32 points, while FC Dallas improves to 32 points from 21 matches.
