Wiedeman helps TFC complete comeback vs. Columbus
Jul 27, 2013 - 8:15 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Andrew Wiedeman picked a fine time to score his first goal of the season as he turned in a cross from Bobby Convey in the final minute of stoppage time to lead Toronto FC to a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday.Columbus looked to be on its way to all three points at BMO Field following Dominic Oduro's 17th-minute goal, but Jonathan Osorio equalized in the 87th minute to deny the visitors.
Not satisfied with a point, the Reds pushed for a winner which eventually came in the dying minutes as Wiedeman struck to give TFC its first league win at BMO Field since July 18, 2012.
Toronto (3-10-8) improves to 17 points on the season, snapping a six-game winless run to move to within six points of Columbus (6-10-5).
Oduro opened the scoring for the Crew with his ninth league goal of the season as he collected a cross-field pass from Matias Sanchez and lashed a low shot that beat TFC goalkeeper Joe Bendik at his near post.
Bendik should have done better with the shot, but he helped makes amends for the miscue by pulling off a pair of tremendous reaction saves shortly after to keep the home side in the game.
Those stops proved to be pivotal as Osorio leveled the score three minutes from time when he fired home a layoff from Jeremy Brockie.
The winner eventually came in the fourth minute of added time as Convey's cross to the back post was met by Wiedeman, who guided the finish past the on- rushing Andy Gruenebaum to complete the sensational comeback.
