Neagle helps Seattle down Chivas

Jul 29, 2013 - 5:03 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC won for the first time in four games on Sunday, recording a 2-1 victory over Chivas USA at CenturyLink Field as Lamar Neagle scored the winning goal in the 57th minute.

Chivas was bidding to win back-to-back games following a 14-game winless streak, and the Goats started well with Erick Torres putting them in front after 16 minutes.

Carlos Alvarez set up the goal by dancing past two defenders at the top of the penalty area and laying the ball off to Torres, who rolled his shot inside the far post.

However, Seattle answered within seven minutes to level the contest with Obafemi Martins playing provider.

The Nigerian rolled a well-weighted ball into the area for Brad Evans, who fired a first-time shot past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

Seattle tried to take the lead in the 48th with a long-range shot from Marc Burch that whistled inches past the post, but Martins had a hand in the winning goal once more nine minutes later.

He dribbled into the box on the right and squared the ball to Mauro Rosales, who helped it on for Neagle to sweep home.

Evans had a goal ruled out for offsides as the Sounders tried to pad their lead, but Sigi Schmid's club did enough to see out the rest of the game for three much-needed points.
